Founded in 1877, Thayer Academy is now an independent college preparatory day school for boys and girls in grades 6 through 12.
Thayer Academy opened the doors to the new 37,000-square-foot Center for the Arts. The $17 million Center includes a 540 seat auditorium and rehearsal space for Thayer’s growing dance and choral music programs.
Built to serve the arts program in which 90 percent of the private secondary school’s students take part – including four choruses, seven jazz ensembles, and three theatrical production a year – the facility was also planned to serve Boston’ South Shore and the town of Braintree’s cultural life.
Acentech designed the audiovisual systems for the auditorium. We joined the team early in the design process to select and minimize the visual impact of the loudspeakers. The AV system’s capabilities include front projection, digital mixing, production communication, wireless microphones, assistive listening capabilities, and a user-friendly control system that includes an automatic mode for instructional presentations.
Acentech also consulted on architectural acoustics, including mechanical system noise and vibration control.
