Regents Hall at Georgetown University is a 154,000 SF state-of-the-art research and teaching center for biology, chemistry, and physics.
The project’s architect, Payette, requested Acentech’s consulting services regarding room finishes to control activity noise, create acoustically comfortable spaces, and promote exceptional listening conditions.
The new building houses teaching laboratories, classrooms, seminar rooms, conference rooms, offices, a café, and major mechanical plant equipment in its penthouse. This mechanical plant was tightly packed with equipment and ductwork, and Acentech took careful consideration to ensure noise and vibration levels in teaching spaces did not exceed desired limits. Another challenge involved limiting the transfer of noise from rooftop mechanical units to the roof terrace of an adjacent building. Acentech recommended special attenuation treatments to dampen the equipment’s impact on surrounding structures.
Regents Hall Science Center is part of the first phase of the University’s “Master Plan.” The second phase of this process will include renovations to the Reiss Science Building and constructing a connecting bridge between the two structures. Regents Hall Science Center was awarded LEED Gold certification.
