The City of Everett, Massachusetts demolished an MBTA bus facility and several industrial properties along Route 99 to accommodate Boston’s first casino, the Wynn Resort, Encore Boston Harbor. This 1.75M square foot bronze-toned glass tower resort and casino development features a 671-room hotel and 210,000-square-foot casino complex.
National Grid proactively responded to the electrical demand of this development’s size and its impact on the city’s existing 3.4-square-mile electric grid by constructing a new electrical substation. The new Hendersonville substation features two 55-megawatt transformers capable of handling up to 115,000 volts. Since there were no transformers on the site, a noise evaluation study was required to determine that the expected sound emissions and impact on the surrounding community were in compliance with the State of Massachusetts noise requirements.
Acentech was retained by National Grid to provide noise consulting services to address any consequences of generating noise from the substation. Our scope involved an ambient sound monitoring survey of the existing site conditions and a 3D-modeled acoustic evaluation. Our study showed that the substation would comply with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts noise requirements without any special noise mitigation.
