The Boston Public Facilities Department (PFD) needed an updated Emergency Management Services (EMS) training facility to meet the City’s current and future needs, and improve operational efficiencies. After a feasibility study review, the PFD selected the second floor of a City-owned industrial building in West Roxbury as the best location to develop for its EMS training program.

Our technology team designed audiovisual, security, and telecommunication systems throughout the new facility, specifically for classrooms, conference rooms, and weatherized training and simulation labs. With a robust and collaborative training program in mind, the audiovisual design allows users to record, archive, and access audio and video content across the facility via dedicated PTZ cameras and large display presentation systems. Electronic security systems include building perimeter, access control, CCTV, and emergency phones and intercoms. We also developed detailed, standards-compliant telecommunication systems including hard-wired cabling and wireless access points, ensuring appropriate interconnections between the audiovisual and security systems.

Acentech’s acoustics experts collaborated with the design team, developing architectural acoustics and mechanical system noise control strategies for classrooms, simulation and research rooms, offices and conference rooms, and amenity spaces including lounges and a gymnasium.

The newly-designed EMS training facility now enjoys state-of-the-art technology and vibrant spaces for education, training and recruiting, and will provide much-needed medical coverage for nearby communities.
