Air Products, based in the U.S. for over 65 years and known as the world’s largest hydrogen supplier, is leading the sustainability charge with a $15 billion investment in energy transition projects and technologies. Part of the firm’s ambitious plan includes its new, 550,000 SF global headquarters designed by Stantec, accommodating over 2,000 employees.

This light-filled complex includes a nine-story office building, a 130,000 SF research and development laboratory, an enclosed parking structure, fitness center, sustainably-designed natural landscape, and rooftop solar array.

Acentech designed acoustics recommendations for the open office areas to mitigate noisy distractions nearby; ensured speech privacy and intelligibility in training and conference rooms; and created a reverberation-free dining hall which doubles as a ‘town hall’ meeting space with provision for amplified speech. We recommended appropriate finishes for a recording studio and control room (including sound isolation between these and neighboring spaces) and an auditorium for large gatherings and lectures. We also reviewed test equipment siting and designed barriers to meet campus and neighboring community sound level goals. Our team also reviewed the sound masking systems once they were installed throughout the new headquarters, to ensure they were well balanced and functioning as intended.

The Air Products Headquarters has impressive sustainable design features, including plenty of daylight through solar orientation strategies, reduced water and fuel needs, and an overall design that corresponds to Fitwell and Green Globes platforms.
