The Ludwick Center for Spirituality, Cultural Understanding, and Community Engagement at the University of La Verne opened in the fall of 2019.
The center encourages community and understanding by providing a gathering space for students, faculty and the community to promote interfaith and cultural communication. Offices of Civic and Community Engagement, International Services and Engagement, Center for Multicultural Services, and Religious and Spiritual Life are all now located within the building.
The Center is a three-story building with a largely glass façade, presenting an inviting front to the campus. It incorporates a portion of the 1962 Brandt dormitory, converting the building to offices and classrooms. The Sacred Space opens to the meditation garden, and provides an inspiring location for spiritual reflection, concerts, lectures, yoga, and religious prayer services.
Acentech collaborated with the Steinberg Hart design team to provide the appropriate acoustical environment for this dynamic new building. A project triumph was the design of the circular Sacred Space. Curved wood panels were angled providing diffusion to disrupt the acoustical focusing aspects of a circular room and provide the appropriate level of acoustical absorption to control the room’s reverberation time.
