Akamai Technologies has a new global headquarters in Cambridge, MA.
The company was once spread out over six different buildings within Kendall Square but has now come together under one roof. The 480,000 SF, 19 story building was designed to promote collaboration, innovation, and communication. Acentech provided the entire design team, led by Sasaki Associates, with acoustics consulting services.
The design includes a number of open circulation and gathering spaces, including the ground floor lobby, client reception, and a large open multi-use assembly space on the top floor. In addition to stunning views and distinctive aesthetic design, these spaces include large areas of acoustically absorptive material, thoughtfully integrated into the look and feel of the space. Open plan office areas are bright and airy while providing freedom from distraction among co-workers. Meeting rooms provide valuable acoustical separation while retaining visual connection to surrounding spaces.
The building connects all departments and groups through a strategically planned floor plan. The large open spaces provide places for people to cross collaborate and share ideas amongst a diverse group. In order to keep distractions down, Acentech’s consultants provided recommendations for sound isolation, acoustical finishes, mechanical system noise and vibration control measures, and electronic sound masking. Akamai’s new headquarters will continue to inspire collaboration and growth for years to come.
