Old Dominion University’s new $17.8M, 50,000 SF two-story Systems Research and Academic Building houses a class 1000 clean room, a unique dynamic simulation facility, instrumentation laboratories, faculty offices, and support spaces.
Acentech provided vibration consulting services for the building to ensure that the clean room, sensitive laboratories, and the vibration-generating dynamic simulation facility would not interfere with each other.
Research and teaching laboratories are furnished with specialized equipment, casework, and laboratory seating. Acentech measured ambient vibrations at the site, characterized vibrations and noise in operating laboratories, quantified vibrations generated in the dynamic simulation facility, and evaluated the vibrations transmitted across the structural elements.
Acentech provided recommendations for structural vibration isolation and noise control to assist in establishing favorable teaching environments. Acentech also carried out additional vibration and noise measurements in the completed building to verify its performance and note any potential shortcomings.
Acentech is proud to support the University’s mission to provide research-driven solutions to the world’s most urgent and critical problems.
