The Possible Zone is a non-profit organization that teaches students of the Boston Public Schools “authentic project-based, culturally responsive, and gender-equitable [entrepreneurship] training aimed at building business, design, social, and emotional skills, as well as igniting passion for innovation.” (The Possible Zone). Acentech was hired by Utile to provide acoustics consulting for the renovation of a former brick warehouse and brewery at 31 Heath Street in Boston, adjacent to the Orange line tracks. This 36,000 sf renewed building includes classrooms, study areas, flexible assembly/meeting space, and an ample active maker space with state-of-the-art equipment.
Our scope of work included various architectural acoustics recommendations, including interior and exterior sound isolation, room acoustics, and activity noise control. The multi-story space includes fabrication labs, computer labs, sewing and prototyping studios, conference spaces, a podcast studio, and a recording booth.
We also provided HVAC system noise and vibration control relating to both interior building spaces and the surrounding community.
Acentech’s team was pleased to provide expertise supporting this important student-focused, year-round program. The Possible Zone is committed to diversity, inclusion, learning, and success for local teenagers. It provides them with the framework to build both professional and personal skills and the opportunity to partner with local businesses on various new products and initiatives.
